Normal

I don't like the word normal. At least in the way it is often used. It describes something that is common, but people use it as if it describes something that is right. But common doesn't mean right.

In the past, children had to work in coal mines. Women weren't allowed to vote, having less rights than men. Heck, the second half of the latter is still normal in one way or another. Some people never got to experience a life outside a warzone. It was normal for them. All that is neither good nor right.

People asked me more than once "why can't you be normal?" The answer is simple. I have believes of how a better world looks like and in what way I must deviate from the current normal. And I try to live in such a way that adheres to said believes.

Don't try to be normal. Don't try to do what everyone else is doing. Do the right thing. Or, at the very least, try your best.
